A named bulb from the “La Buffa Rosa” group. Fragrant pink and white Zephyranthes originally wild-collected at La Bufa del Diente in the Sierra Chiquita mountains of Tamaulipas, Mexico, at 4,000 feet elevation.
'Summer Chill' is the cool-toned counterpoint to the deeper pinks in the La Buffa Rosa collection. Large white flowers with a delicate pink blush deepening to a clean pink edge at the petal tips, crisp, fresh, and distinctive. Fragrant, as all La Buffa Rosa Group cultivars are, with the characteristic glossy, strap-like semi-evergreen foliage of the group. Blooms 6–7 cm, flowering well from midsummer through to autumn in South East Queensland after rain in full sun to part shade.
A critical detail for collectors: Summer Chill is a vegetatively propagated select clone, not a seed-grown selection. This means every bulb is genetically identical to the original Yucca Do introduction. You are getting the named variety as it was selected, not a seedling approximation of it. This is what distinguishes named La Buffa Rosa clones from seed-grown Labuffarosea strains, and it is why the stock is genuinely limited.
Multiplies via offsets and prefers to be crowded. Can cross-pollinate with other Zephyranthes. Suited to pots, garden beds, and rockeries.
