Blush Romance is our own blend of two of my favourite strawflowers, King Silvery Rose and King Rose, both of which I have been growing here since the very beginning of my cut-flower journey. I love them for their beautiful colouring, large blooms and ease of fitting into any bouquet colour palette.
Strawflowers belong to the daisy family (Asteraceae) and are true Australian natives. Xerochrysum bracteatum, once known as Helichrysum bracteatum, is believed to have been the first Australian daisy brought into cultivation and the first Australian native plant to be hybridised.
The King Size types produce large, double blooms on long, sturdy stems, making them particularly valuable for cutting. The flowers bring together soft silvery blush, pastel pink and deeper rose tones for a romantic, naturally varied palette.
And of course, they have that wonderful strawflower quality we all love - the papery bracts hold their colour and form beautifully, making them excellent both fresh and dried.
Growing Information
Sow: Spring through autumn in warm climates
Depth: Surface sow or cover very lightly
Germination: Approximately 7-14 days
Spacing: 25-40 cm
Position: Full sun
Height: Up to approximately 100 cm
Flowering: Approximately 12-16 weeks from sowing, depending on conditions
Harvest: For fresh flowers, cut when the blooms are developed and the central bloom is fully open.
