15× seeds of the stunningly beautiful Silver Edged pumpkin. A native of Mexico, called Pipian from Tuxpan Squash (Cucurbita argyrosperma), with pear- and oval-shaped fruits featuring green stripes over a white to creamy base. It’s grown for its delicious edible seeds and ornamental qualities. The flesh is edible, though not its strongest feature—we usually feed ours to compost worms or chickens 🫣😅. (I’ve read that the immature fruits are very good, similar to zucchini, but I’ve yet to try them this way—planning to this season 😋.)
Being a different group from most commonly grown pumpkins, it’s highly unlikely to cross-pollinate with them, making it easy to grow alongside a table variety and still save seeds for the next generation.
The seeds of Silver Edged Squash are high in protein, essential fatty acids, B-complex and vitamin E, as well as copper, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.
A fun and beautiful pumpkin to grow! Start in early spring to summer, in full sun. Approx. 90–110 days to harvest.
Happy gardening! 🌱👩🌾 - Carla
