Seed grown and selected at Our Mountain Garden
An ongoing work in progress of Nigella damascena, also called love-in-a-mist, selected over three generations so far and already showing taller, stronger stems and a very high percentage of double blooms.
This line produces elegant white double flowers, with a few singles, and soft, airy foliage, followed by attractive seed pods valued for use in both fresh and dried arrangements.
Grown here under our mountain conditions, this selection has been gradually improving by careful choosing for stem length, double blooms, and overall uniformity.
Growing Guide
Sowing: Autumn to early winter (or early spring)
Depth: Lightly cover (3–5 mm)
Germination: 10–20 days
Spacing: 15–20 cm
Height: 50–70 cm (occasional taller)
Conditions: Full sun, well-drained soil
Notes: Best direct sown. Does not like transplanting. Plugs can be used if preferred but handle gently and plant out early.
A delicate star-like flower, valued for its extended harvest window — useful both as a fresh bloom and for ornamental seed pods in bouquets.
