We’re trialling this beautiful new cosmos at Our Mountain Garden for the first time this season.

Our first bed is growing beautifully, and the plants are already budding up, so we’re looking forward to seeing how they perform in our garden and in bouquets soon.

We chose Fizzy Rose Picotee because it appears to have good stem strength and seems able to hold its flower heads up nicely, something that’s especially useful for cutting and arranging. And those dreamy colours should fit in perfectly here!

Semi-double blooms, most with cute Fizzy centres in white with raspberry Rose Picotee edging. The colouring is delicate and easy to blend with other flowers, adding a little whimsy, height and movement to bouquets.

We’ll be sharing our own photos and experience as the plants flower, but we didn’t want to keep you waiting if you’d like to trial and grow this beautiful cosmos with us this season!

Fizzy Rose Picotee is part of the Fizzy Series, listed by Takii for cut-flower use as well as garden growing.

🌱 Growing Information

Botanical name: Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Fizzy Rose Picotee’

Plant type: Annual

Sow: Spring to early summer, once the soil has warmed. In warmer climates, sowing can also be timed for cooler growing periods.

Depth: Approximately 3-5mm, covering the seeds lightly.

Germination: Usually 7-14 days in warm conditions.

Spacing: Approximately 30-40cm between plants.

Conditions: Full sun and well-drained soil. Choose a position sheltered from strong winds if possible.

Height: Approximately 100cm.

Flowering: Approximately 10-14 weeks from sowing, depending on growing conditions.

Growing tips: Keep the soil lightly moist while seeds germinate. Avoid overfeeding, as overly rich soil can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers. Pinch out the growing tip when young plants are around 20-30cm tall to encourage branching and more flowering stems.

Harvest: For bouquets, cut stems when the flowers are beginning to open. Regular cutting and removal of spent flowers can encourage further blooms.

Cosmos is a lovely addition to the cutting garden and also attracts bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Packet contents: Approximately 50 seeds.

We post to QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and SA including regional areas. We are unable to post to WA, NT, TAS or overseas.

Happy growing,
Carla 🌱
