Seed collected at Our Mountain Garden from ‘Jenny’s Treasure’ x Open Pollinated.
Please note that Jenny's Treasure produces small sized seeds in comparison to our other dahlia seeds
Jenny’s Treasure has been a cornerstone seed parent for us here at Our Mountain Garden - she has given us more than her fair share of potential keepers over the years, has been a steady producer all season long. On Tamborine Mountain she has beautiful dark stems, good head attachment and sits slightly more upright on the stem than many dahlias - which makes her an easy inclusion in bunches without fighting the arrangement.
Jenny’s Treasure is a miniature decorative dahlia bred by Jenny Parish, the original owner of Country Dahlias in Winchelsea, Victoria - one of Australia’s most significant dahlia collections, running over 2,000 named varieties at its peak. The blooms are a vibrant bright pink with tiny gold tips on the petals, fully double in the classic miniature decorative form.
Growing Information
Sowing time: Seeds need warmth to germinate - soil temperature of at least 18°C, ideally 20-25°C.
Starting method: Sow into seed raising mix in small pots or trays, covering seeds lightly with about 5mm of mix. The paper towel method also works well - place seeds between damp paper towels in a warm spot (20-25°C), check daily, and pot up as soon as you see a root emerge. Once sprouted, keep seedlings in good light to avoid leggy growth.
Germination: Typically 7-14 days at 18-25°C. Cooler conditions will slow germination considerably.
Planting out: Plant seedlings out once overnight temperatures are reliably above 10°C and all risk of frost has passed.
Position: Full sun
