Seed collected at Our Mountain Garden from Coorabell 'Jessie'  x Open Pollinated.

Jessie performs beautifully here on Tamborine Mountain - she’s one of the most loved and asked-about colours by our farm gate customers.  This will be our first year growing out her seedlings and we’re looking forward to seeing what her offspring produce.

Coorabell Jessie is an Australian-bred decorative dahlia from the Wedd family of Coorabell Dahlias, Northern NSW - a family synonymous with high-quality Australian dahlias favoured by florists and flower farmers alike. The blooms are a soft salmon-pink, often starting out apricot early in the season and warming to a peachy pink as the weeks go on - which means every picking is a little different. The stems are long and strong, and Jessie was a consistent bloomer for us last season.

Growing Information

Sowing time: Seeds need warmth to germinate - soil temperature of at least 18°C, ideally 20-25°C.

Starting method: Sow into seed raising mix in small pots or trays, covering seeds lightly with about 5mm of mix. The paper towel method also works well - place seeds between damp paper towels in a warm spot (20-25°C), check daily, and pot up as soon as you see a root emerge. Once sprouted, keep seedlings in good light to avoid leggy growth.

Germination: Typically 7-14 days at 18-25°C. Cooler conditions will slow germination considerably.

Planting out: Plant seedlings out once overnight temperatures are reliably above 10°C and all risk of frost has passed.

Position: Full sun
